How do you configure Domino to send out Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) traps for Domino running onWIN32 ?

To configure Domino to send out SNMP traps on a WIN32 server, follow the steps below:

1.  Configure SNMP at the OS level:
Go to  Start --> Settings --> Control Panel --> Add/Remove Programs.  
Select "Add/Remove  Windows Components" on the left.
Choose "Management and Monitoring Tools" and click "Details".
Enable "Simple Network Management Protocol" (SNMP).

2.  Configure the Domino LNSNMP agent to run as a service:
Stop the current LNSNMP and SNMP services by entering the following commands at a command prompt:
net stop lnsnmp
net stop snmp
Configure the Lotus Domino SNMP Agent as a service.  From the Domino program directory type:
"lnsnmp -Sc"
Start the SNMP and LNSNMP services with the following commands:
net start snmp
net start lnsnmp

At this point, the SNMP configuration is no longer operating system specific.  You can configure Domino to send SNMP traps in the Event Monitoring & Configuration database (events4.nsf).  Please note that Domino does not support receiving SNMP traps at this point, only sending them.

Note: The Domino SNMP Agent is configured as a Windows service, and set to run automatically.  If you upgrade Domino you should stop the LNSNMP and Windows SNMP services before beginning the upgrade process.  If you ever need to undo the configuration of the Lotus Domino SNMP Agent as a service, use the command: "lnsnmp -Sd"
